Computer Desk Plans

If you’re considering building a computer desk, then you’ve come to the RIGHT place.

GOOD NEWS! This page was recently updated on Sunday 6th of March 2016

As with any woodworking project, if you haven’t got the right plans, you’ll most likely make mistakes and get frustrated when your computer desk doesn’t turn out as you hoped.

On this page I’ll reveal the place that gives you the most comprehensive and easy to use computer desk plans. In addition to that, I’ll give you a couple of pointers about things you can do to ensure you get your computer desk built properly, the first time.

The Best Place to Get Computer Desk Plans

If you’re like me when I started first woodworking projects, then you’re most likely hoping to find a free computer desk plan that you can download immediately.

The sad reality is that all the computer desk plans that I’ve been able to find online leave a lot to be desired. I did find a few plans, but they usually lacked dimensions, or if the did have dimensions they were only in 2D.

Not only that, but the free computer desk plans I stumbled upon didn’t provide any step by step procedure to follow…these are fundamental for me in any woodworking project I undertake.

The Good News…

The good news is that while you won’t find any good free computer desk plans, there are a couple of very good and very affordable websites that provide comprehensive step by step plans and building instructions.

Here are the two places that offer the best selection of computer desk plans:

  1. Teds Woodworking (The #1 international seller of woodworking plans in 2011*)
  2. Woodworking 4 Home

IMPORTANT NOTE: These two products do NOT specialize in solely computer desk plans. While they do provide a number of options for desk plans, they also expand to cover other types of home and office furniture as well.

Builders Suggestion: Slide Out Keyboard!

An easy way to give your computer desk even more functionality is to add a slide out keyword tray. Keyboard trays are extremely easy to add to a desk and will allow you to save a lot of space, and also to keep your desk uncluttered, tidy, and clean.

Save anything that’s not part of the desk structure till last. If you happen to get any of the measurements wrong, you’ll easily be able to modify most plans to allow for small errors.

By saving “add-ons” like the keyboard tray till last, you’ll ensure you get an optimal fit and you’ll minimize waste!

How To Find Out More…

The tips on this page are purely that – tips. Hopefully you’ve found them useful, but keep in mind that until you actually get your computer desk plans, you can’t start building your desk.

I highly recommend you check out Ted’s Woodworking. It’s had more positive reviews from our readers that any other product we’ve ever mentioned.

Thanks for the information, I’m actually just getting started with woodworking as a hobby and plan on building a computer desk as my first project. The slide out keyword is a great idea – I’ll definitely be adding one of those!
