Teds Woodworking Review

This review was last updated on Saturday 12th of March 2016

Teds Woodworking has received a huge amount of hype in the past few years and has even been featured on CNN, AOL, Yahoo!, ABC, USAToday and Entrepreneur.

But the question remains…

Does Ted’s Woodworking deliver on it’s promises and do his woodworking plans and projects live up to the hype?

Read on to find out about the pros and cons of Ted’s Woodworking and to get a “sneak peek” at what’s available in the members area…before I get to all that however, let me give you an overview of exactly what Ted’s Woodworking is:

What is Ted’s Woodworking?

Ted’s Woodworking is a compilation of over 16,000 different woodworking plans, step-by-step building instructions, woodworking projects, blueprints and diagrams.

There’s no doubting the quantity of plans, I’ve seen these for myself and it’s pretty impressive…what was more important to me is the quality of the plans and whether or not they can be used by everyday “D.I.Yers” to get the required end result…

Lets take a look at the Pro & Cons of Teds Woodworking…

Pros of Teds Woodworking:

When I signed up to get access to Ted’s plans, the first thing that really impressed me was that I had virtually instant access to them.

It was easy to sign up and even easier to download the plans. Everything was laid out and explained for easy use in an organized members area.

The next thing I did was download some bookcase plans, this was the first project I’d planned on working on and the main reason I joined Ted’s Woodworking in the first place.

I was VERY impressed by not only the number of book-case plans (17 in total), but also the variation of designs, attention to detail, and step-by-step instructions provided. The book-case plans definitely exceeded my expectations.

The second project I worked on was a bunk bed. Again, I was blown away by the shear quantity of plans, and also by the “builders tips” and step by step instructions provided.

The diagrams vary in quality, some are a bit of a waste of time, but on the whole, they’re pretty good.

Some diagrams have measurements in Inches while others use the metric system (centimeters). This wasn’t really an issue for me as I was able to quickly and easily convert any measurements where necessary.

The other big “pro” that impressed me is the fact that Ted McGrath is obviously an experienced woodworker who knows what he is talking about…a great person to learn from.

Cons of Teds Woodworking:

There really aren’t too many cons but there are definitely a few things which could be improved:

  • While most of the plans are really good quality, some aren’t. I’d prefer that Ted get rid of low quality plans and just keep the good quality ones in there…this would save a bit of time when looking for the right plan to use.
  • Another thing I think they could improve (which would save a lot of time) is to add more categories. For example, it’d be easy to make a category specifically for “Bunk Beds” as opposed to combining the bunk bed plans with all the other bed plans.
  • While there are about 115 demo videos, I think it’d be great if Ted and his team continue to add to these. The membership area and member support is great, but it could be even better if they added another couple of new videos every week.

Conclusion:

Overall I’ve personally been blow away with the quantity and quality of plans offered at Ted’s Woodworking.

There’s no doubt in my mind that this product is the best on the internet for people looking for woodworking plans.

P.S – Ted’s Woodworking has been the top selling set of woodworking plans for the last couple of years now – I’m not the only one who has been impressed by what Ted’s put together!

    Hi Aidan,

I’ve just received your first newsletter to me recently, It’s very informative. Thank you!
There’s another article about Ted’s Woodworking Plan I had read. However, it’s on a negative note. One thing it says is that the address on Ted’s site is non existent.

The article also mentioned that Ted’s Plan is pirated from all over the place on the Internet including You Tube.

What is your say about this?

    • Aidan says:

Hi Carlos, unfortunately some of Ted’s plans probably have been pirated and put on different websites…I’ve also heard the same thing. Not sure about Ted’s address being non-existant though…all I know is that he’s sold thousands of his pack of plans and for the most part, people are very happy with them.
